Congratulations on your new little one!
I’m so excited to capture these sweet, fleeting moments in the comfort of your home. This guide will help you prepare so your session feels relaxed and stress-free.
1. Styling & Wardrobe
• For Baby: Simple is best. A simple outfit, or plain onesie, swaddle, or diaper cover works beautifully. Neutral, soft tones (whites, creams, light pastels) photograph timelessly. If you’d like I can bring some of my stretchy fabric swaddles and wrap baby up for you.
• For Parents & Siblings: Choose soft, coordinating colors (neutrals with a few accent tones). Stick to solids or subtle patterns. Avoid bright neon colors and anything with heavy logos.
• Barefoot or socks: Since we’re in your home, going barefoot often looks most natural.
2. Best Locations in the Home
I’ll look for areas with the best natural light. Most often this includes:
• The Nursery – Details and cozy moments.
• The Master Bed – Family cuddles on the bed make for beautiful, intimate shots.
• The Living Room – Especially if you have large windows or a cozy corner.
Don’t worry—I’ll guide you to where the light looks best on the day of your session.
3. Tidying & Decluttering
Please don’t feel like your home needs to be spotless! We’ll focus on a few key spaces.
• Clear nightstands, dressers, or side tables of clutter (water bottles, remotes, chargers, cords, etc.).
• Make beds with simple, neutral bedding if possible (white, cream, or solid light colors photograph beautifully).
• Tidy up baby’s nursery— the crib, dresser top, and rocking chair area are most important.
• Hide cords, laundry piles, or large distractions in the areas we’ll shoot.
4. Feeding & Comfort
• Try to feed your baby a full feeding right before I arrive so that they are content and sleepy for the session.
• Have a swaddle, pacifier (if baby uses one), and a burp cloth nearby.
• The house may feel warm - keeping the temperature cozy helps baby stay comfortable and sleepy.
5. What to Expect During the Session
• Sessions usually last about 1 hour to allow for feeding breaks, diaper changes, and cuddles.
• I’ll gently guide you through natural poses and interactions, but the focus is on capturing real, relaxed moments with your family.
• Don’t worry if your baby cries, needs breaks, or things feel “imperfect”—those little in-between moments often make the sweetest photos.
✨ Final Tip: Relax and enjoy.
This is about documenting your family’s love and connection, not perfection.
I can’t wait to capture these precious memories for you!
See you all soon,
Blair
